Human Resource Management (HRM) is a new way of thinking about how people should be managed as employees in the workplace. (A brief history of how the employer-employee relationship was handled before HRM is depicted in the timeline (Box. 1.1).) In much the same way as there are different roads to success, HRM is not one theory but an evolving set of competing theories.
