In the third edition we have added a significant amount of new material. There are also numerous corrections and clarifications throughout the text. We have also added several new problems. In Chapter 1 we have added a section on magnetic work, while in Chapter 2 we have added to the discussion of the maximum entropy principle, emphasizing the importance of the assumption that the entropy is extensive in a normal thermodynamic system.
